Chrys Horn, Jude Wilson, Helen Fitt, Joanna Doherty

Landcare Research Science Series No. 36

This report documents the research processes, findings and outcomes that made up the Te Tâpoitanga Mâori  programme. It involved working with rural Mâori from two case study areas – Te Urewera in the North Island of New Zealand and Banks Peninsula in the South Island. This is public good research funded by the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology and was carried out between July 2004 and June 2008 by Landcare Research, Takuahi Research and Development, The Te Urewera Tairâwhiti Tourism Forum and the Tûhoe Tourism Federation for their members and those involved in rural Mâori tourism development. Aspects of the research programme will be of interest to researchers, central and local government and tourism representatives, as well as to local communities involved in tourism development or other small business development.
